An important Check List for all Parents to use on their children who swim like a fish.
Here are extremely important Safety Guidelines
Safety Guidelines for Parents to test your children that Swim like a Fish.
I find it astonishing when I ask parents randomly, if their children know how to swim yet? Ironically, the first words uttered out of their mouths are, “Oh yes, they swim like little fish”. My enthusiastic response is, “How wonderful you must be very proud of them at such a young age being capable of doing freestyle and the back crawl”. At that moment you see the wheels turning silently and then they humbly speak very softly and say, “Oh no, they don’t know their strokes”. Please parents, if this sounds familiar I strongly urge you to run your children through a series of tests. After all this is your child’s life we are talking about. Oh and not to mention if you parents aren’t fishes yet, you too need to run through these exercises to see where you are.
Seriously, this comes from the bottom of my heart. And just because I may stand to profit from you getting swim lessons does not mean that I’m not offering the best service and product for the money. Heck, you could take all my advice and go elsewhere if you want! That’s right; learning these techniques are extremely critical whether my company provides them for you or somebody else does! You can choose to believe me or not, after all, I have been in the business for 20 years.
Most importantly and in order
- Can they float on their back unassisted for 5 mins.
- Ask them to repeatedly cough while on their back (pretend they just swallowed water and choked)
- Can they tread water for 1-2 mins. – then immediately go into their back float and rest (must be able to repeat this several times)
- Have them swim several laps back and forth and instead of going to the side of the pool (to hold onto and breath) go directly into a back float till their heart beat is back to normal.
The underlying reason behind all this is because I know this for a fact, that God forbid we ever encounter or are in an area throughout our life span, that would have a flood, a hurricane or a tsunami, there would be so many countless deaths of children and adults because we think we can swim. The absolute truth of the matter is that swimming in a pool is one thing and being in amazing shape is another. Much less, having the knowledge on how to handle these different scenarios on a much grander scale, such as oceans, rivers, lakes, or flood water.Or even the know how of saving another life. You see, our program even teaches water safety, now, that is another subject in itself to come at a later date.
Parents we aren’t just talking about the here and now. You must look at the big picture, which is, you will not be around your children for the rest of your life. When they become teenagers, they come across a lot more opportunities in life with friends, relatives etc. You don’t know how many times I hear adults comment “I wished my parents taught me how to swim when I was a child.”
