Maureen’s Swim Academy’s mission is to educate and encourage the knowledge of swimming, safety, and survival in, on and around all bodies of water. We teach in a loving, warm environment to build our student’s trust and we teach in a logical progression. Learning to swim should be a fun experience where children become more confident, independent, safe swimmers. We strive to prevent drownings one child at a time!
We begin teaching at 8 weeks old because babies have a natural reflex to automatically close their throats. The physical stimulation is vital in helping 4 year olds and under to learn. The earlier the better! Babies are brilliant and their abilities should not be underestimated!
We get 95% of our students 4 years old and older to swim out of our arms as far as their breath and bubbles will allow them to travel within the first 5 lessons. They do need more weeks in order to swim and breathe simultaneously and thus allowing their safety and confidence to soar as they swim all over the pool.
99% of our adults typically learn to swim within 2 to 5 days. In as little as 4 wks adults and young teens are swimming all over the pool safely with confidence. Check out our lovely google reviews!

Tonight I had a great lesson with Maureen. I started the lesson not being able to breathe properly as I never learned how to swim properly as a child. It was very uncomfortable for me and just was not natural. By the end of the hour, I was amazed as I swam the length of the pool twice! Thanks Maureen and I highly recommend this business.

We recommend 5 lessons per week as it is the best for the student’s progression. We also offer 3 lessons per week to accommodate our busier clients.
Our philosophy at Maureen’s Swim Academy is to create safe, independent swimmers! We want to decrease the statistic of accidental drowning deaths in Florida. Parents get the benefit of our history of unmatched experience. Our program focuses on customizing the lesson around each student’s needs and abilities. We accomplish this by our one-on-one private instruction, semi-private, or group lessons (max 3 in a group). Learning to swim should be nurturing, fun and taught in a logical progression. Our certified instructors are trained to positively guide you in accomplishing your goals. Water Safety is key and is weaved throughout our swim classes.
Swim lessons teach babies and children motor stimulation; without this they can’t learn. Movement and experience helps infants gather information. Sensory information comes from the environment by way of a child’s skin, nose, eyes, ears, taste buds, and nerve receptors. Once the exploration experiences are repeated, nerve pathways are created and neural memories are established. These neural pathways set down intricate networks that direct a child’s higher level brain development. The more plentiful and diverse the experiences, the more complex patterns for memory, learning and reasoning will be established. (Hannaford 2005 and Lana Whitehead 2010)
